SCCC to hold Sept. 11 memorial

    A ceremony commemorating the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the memorial on Connor Green at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) in Newton.

    There will be a flyover by the NJ Army National Guard Aviation Unit, with the helicopter on display after the ceremony. The NJ Army National Guard Recruiting Unit: SSG. Cynthia Bengel and SFC. Fernando Cova-Gomez will present Nation's color guard. The Keynote speech will be given by John Fila, of Engine Company 54, FDNY.

    The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Law Enforcement Honor Guard will lead ceremonial commencement. Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County will participate, well as Bugles Across America and local vocalists. The Boy Scouts of America, local law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel will also participate. VFW Post #5360 will conduct a Gun Salute.

    The annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is organized at the Sussex County Community College by members of P.B.A. Local #138. For information contact Patrolman Edward Sperling at the Newton Police Department.
