‘Players' stage cancer benefit plays

WEST MILFORD - The West Milford Players is staging an evening of two one-act plays by two great American playwrights to benefit The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. "The Zoo Story" by Edward Albee and "Death Knocks" by Woody Allen will be performed on May 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 8 p.m. and May 16 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held at the Hillcrest Community Center, 1810 Macopin Road, WEst Milford. A portion of the ticket prices as well as 50 percent of the program advertising will go the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, a charity dedicated to breast cancer awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, treatment and support services for the medically underserved. "We couldn't be more thrilled working for such a worthy charitable cause," says John Richards, president of the West Milford Players. "We have an opportunity to bring quality live theater to the area and raise money for breast cancer awareness. What could be better?" "The plays themselves are outstanding, but because they are in the "one-act" form, they are rarely performed in a community theater setting. These are great plays penned by two of the most recognizable names in contemporary American theater. To counter the tense drama of The Zoo Story, the second half of the West Milford Players' evening of one-act plays is Woody Allen's Death Knocks, a hilarious and slightly irreverent look at a man's encounter with his own death.
