Mt. Peter to host Katrina fundraiser in form of concert

Warwick - A concert to benefit the New Orleans Musicians Fund will be held - rain or shine - on Saturday, Oct, 22, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Mt. Peter Ski Area on Route 17A in Warwick. Tickets are $12 each. available at the gate, which opens at 11:30 a.m. A barbecue menu will be available, although not included in the ticket price. The foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to aid the pioneers of New Orleans jazz and the blues 55 years of age and older whose stage has been the streets of New Orleans. Many of these musician are now homeless, many without medical coverage and with limited if any means of supporting themselves as the city recovers. The idea of a benefit concert came to Scot Mullen of Blackbyrd, a Warwick-based band. After seeing the effects Hurricane Katrina had on the Gulf Cost, specifically the New Orleans area, Mullen and his bandmates - Albee Delia, John Hodgson and Chris Valentine - decided to use their music to help the victims of Katrina. After a month of planning, their efforts will come together on Oct. 22. In addition to Blackbyrd, the concert’s line up includes: From Sinking, Grudge, Naked Citizens, Shed This Earth, Stereofever, The Bonnie Situation, The Revival, The Victory Stanza, Zen and more. Mt. Peter has donated the use of its property and staff for this event. Also contributing are Steinwand Sound Studios, WRRV, Alto Music, Dick’s Sporting Goods, ShopRite, Seely-Durland Insurance, The Warwick Advertiser, WarwickInfo.net, The Dispatch and the Times-Herald Record. Mullen is currently seeking additional sponsors who may be willing to help with a raffle to raise even more funds for those in need.
