Kittatinny's 'Legally Blonde' playing in early May
NEWTON Kittatinny senior Jenna Cormey has the lead role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, the Musical which is being performed at Kittatinny Regional High School (KRHS) on Thursday, May 3, through Saturday May 5. Wearing Elles signature pink outfit, Cormey is perched on bookshelves in the schools library, a fitting research background for a story that takes place at Harvard Law School. According to KRHS Director and Teacher of English, Roy Chiariello, Legally Blonde is the hottest and most modern high school show and it has never been done before in Sussex County. Legally Blonde tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She ends up as the valedictorian of her class and discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others. She successfully defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Opening on Broadway in April 2007, Legally Blonde grossed more than $1 million a week on several occasions and received seven Tony nominations. The West End production opened in January 2010 at the Savoy Theatre and won three Laurence Olivier Awards, including the Best New Musical award. At Kittatinny, Chiariello is enthusiastic about the production and predicts a full house for the popular musical. Our audiences will love it," said Chiariello. "The curtain never closes and the action never stops." The show is being performed at the Peter A. Mahler Performing Arts Theater at KRHS. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. on for each performance. General admission is $10 per person.
