Dixieland jazz coming to Jefferson's Gazebo

Jefferson-Dixie-Time will perform in Jefferson Township from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday July 18 as the featured performers at the Gazebo, located at the Municipal Building Complex at 1033 Weldon Road in the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson. Dixie-Time has been performing since 1996 and consists of trumpet, trombone, clarinet, banjo, saxophone, string bass, piano and drums. Centered in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Dixie-Time performs in the New Jersey/New York/ Pennsylvania area. The group's musical library spans music from 1899-1989 and includes religious selections, show tunes, swing, marches and ragtime. They play classic Dixieland chestnuts such as "Muskrat Ramble," "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Basin Street Blues," "High Society," "Birth of the Blues," "Clarinet Marmalade," "That's a Plenty" and, of course, "When the Saints Go Marching In." Other selections include "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," "Mane," "American Patrol," "Washington and Lee Swing," and "Alexander's Ragtime Band." Dixieland jazz is a truly American art forms, beginning in New Orleans in the 1880's. As the Mississippi River was the main venue of North/South transportation, New Orleans musicians working the riverboats took their music to St. Louis, where ragtime was popular. Dixieland jazz soon spread to other parts of the country including Chicago and New York. The concert is open to all. Spectators are advised to bring a chair or blanket and refreshments.
