Book fair is big hit at Wantage School

WANTAGE-Last month, Wantage school students, teachers and parents enjoyed being immersed in quality books at the school's Scholastic Book Fair. The fair was part of the celebration which included many events, including "A Night of a Thousand Stars" in which students and their parents enjoyed poetry and stories read by teachers and community members. Parents and teachers participated in "The Give a Gift of Reading" program, with parents purchasing books selected by the teachers for classroom use. Parents also purchased gift certificates for teachers to buy books for their classrooms and purchased gift certificates to be distributed to students. During the fair, students had the opportunity to win book certificates. Three students, Jessica Lee, Tyler Nehrings and Erica Williams, came closest to guessing the number of dog bones in the barrel and each won a $10 book gift certificate. In keeping with the animal theme of the "Read a Great Tale" Book Fair, students brought in pictures of themselves and their pets. These were put into class collages and displayed during the fair. The class at each grade level that brought in the most pictures earned a book for their class. They were: Ms. Serignese's 3rd grade class, Ms. Camarro's 4th grade class and Mr. Pasake's 5th grade class. In addition, students entered their "Pick of the Litter", listing their favorite book from the fair. Students whose names were pulled received $10.00 book gift certificates. Some 34 parents and family members provided invaluable volunteer assistance.
