    — United Way of Northern New Jersey is inviting winter sports enthusiasts to its one-of-a-kind, family-friendly golf event in Sussex County that takes place in any kind of weather at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The 12th annual United Way Chili Open Golf Classic combines a spirited golf outing with the serious work of raising money to support struggling families.

In partnership with the Sussex County Rotary Clubs, golfers can play 18 holes and warm up afterward with a chili sampling fest as well as a variety of other tasty fare from local restaurants and caterers.

Golfers can also take part in dozens of raffles featuring prizes from local businesses and community members. In addition, Sussex County band R.E.N.O. will be on hand to play its signature brand of acoustic rock music.

“This winter golf event is for the adventurous and big-hearted,” said Mary Emilius, United Way’s chief professional officer in Sussex County. “As Sussex County’s kickoff social event of the year you get to enjoy our community’s greatest assets, a lively spirit and a dedication to helping neighbors in need.”

According to United Way, more than 16,000 households or 30 percent of Sussex County households struggle to afford the basics of housing, food, transportation, child care and health care due to the region’s high cost of living. Proceeds from the event go toward financial mentoring programs that help to put individuals and families on the road to financial stability.

United Way is joined by this year’s sponsors, including Name A Nine Sponsors Century Link, PSEandG, Selective Insurance and Sussex Bank. Additional sponsors include Ames Rubber, Coastal Financial, Eastern Propane, Intercar Mercedes-Benz, Kohler Distributing Company, Lakeland Bank, navitend, Newton Medical Center, Thorlabs and Title On Demand of NJ; and In-Kind Sponsors New Jersey Herald, New Jersey State Fair and Tri State Insurance.

Tickets are $75 per golfer. Tickets for lunch only are $10 per person. For more information or to register, visit UnitedWayNNJ.org/Chili2015.
